America’s most famous fighter ace to come out of WWII. His popularity has been enhanced by television series purporting to portray the escapades of his wartime squadron known as the “Black Sheep”. Boyington left the Marine Corps to join the American Volunteer Group (AVG) in China where he unofficially is credited with 6 aerial victories. Rejoining the USMC, Boyington scored 22 victories to bring his total to 28.0. In the USMC he led VMF-214. Boyington passed away in January 1988. |
