CLYDE B. EAST WAS BORN JULY 29, 1921 IN PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VIRGINIA, JOINED THE ROYAL CANADIAN AIR FORCE IN JUNE 1941 AND GRADUATED FROM FLYING SCHOOL AT DUNNYVILLE, ONTARIO, IN NOVEMBER 1942. TRANSFERRED TO USAAF IN JANUARY 1944. ASSIGNED 15TH TAC RECON. SQ., 10TH TAC RECON. GP. AND REMAINED WITH THEM UNTIL VE DAY IN GERMANY. DURING THIS PERIOD HE FLEW OVER 200 COMBAT MISSIONS IN RF-51 AIRCRAFT AND DESTROYED 12 ENEMY AIRCRAFT, MOSTLY ME109’S AND FW190’S, IN THE AIR. |
